Tips to Improve Your Writing

Mignon Fogarty’s Grammar Girl podcast is a five-minute program produced weekly and accessed at http://quickanddirtytips.com/. Like the name of her business, Mignon gives quick and dirty tips for remembering the proper way to state things that many people commonly get wrong when writing. For example, do you know when to use accept or except?

Then or than?

Their, they’re, or there?

Two, too, or to?

Spell check programs will not catch these mistakes because after all, these words are spelled correctly; they are just used incorrectly. Listening to the podcast will teach you new things and remind you of things you already knew, but if you are thinking you may forget what you heard, you can get Grammar Girl’s book and use it as a reference. Another quick reference guide is Karen Reddick’s book Grammar Done Right. I keep it within reach whenever I am working.

I hope these tips help you get your message across concisely, clearly, and effectively. If you need help with writing or editing, please call (615) 415-9861. Get more information about my writing services at http://writersinthesky.com/writing-services.html
