Has Your Blog Helped Your Business?

Most of the marketing for Writers in the Sky Creative Writing Services—my freelance writing business—is conducted online. About 80 percent of my customers find me through my online promotion efforts.

I have both a Web site and a blog for my business. My Web site shows all the writing and editing services we offer to our clients. My business blog, contains book reviews, author interviews, networking opportunities, announcements from subscribers, resources for writers and authors, and provides a place where people can share information.

The main reason I started my business blog was to have a place for people to listen to Writers in the Sky (WITS) Podcast—my weekly show about the craft and business of writing. I interview authors who want to promote their book and share their experience with writing, publishing and marketing their book. I have also interviewed publishers, publicists, book reviewers, editors, eBook companies, book cover designers, and other experts in the field. All those shows are archived on my blog.

All my online marketing efforts interface with one another. I mention my blog in my free electronic newsletter each month. I use the newsletter material as posts for my blog. This interaction draws people to the site and once they see how much valuable material the blog offers, they want to visit my Web site and sign up for the WITS newsletter. My blog helps people find me on social networks, I use social networking to lead folks to my blog or to read articles on this directory. I update my blogs daily, which increases a blog or Web site’s popularity with search engines. By providing fresh and helpful information daily, writers and authors have come to view this blog as a vital resource and they may sign up for the RSS feed.

Online marketing is truly like a web with many crossovers in promotion.

If you want to sell a product or service by using a blog or Web site, be sure to offer quality content, and don’t use hype to try and sell something. Instead, share information and make your product or service visible and easy for a customer to make a purchase. If the visitor wants what you are selling, they will purchase it without your having to get in their face.

Develop a networking relationship with your target market, and be willing to help them as they help you. That is what being online is all about. And, that is what our blog chain is for—networking
