Barbara Techel joins Yvonne Perry today on Writers in the Sky Podcast to discuss her children's book Frankie the Walk 'n Roll Dog.
Barbara wrote her children’s book to give hope and inspiration to all who face challenges. Her lifetime love of animals led her to realize that Frankie’s paralysis was an opportunity to spread a positive message. Barbara receives constant compassionate reactions when she is out with Frankie in her local town. People are fascinated by the little dog with tires, frequently asking her what happened to Frankie. The warmth, kindness and encouragement from strangers, as well as family and friends, lead Barbara to writing this, her first children’s book.

From 2005-2007 Barbara’s column, “For the Love of Animals” appeared in the Depot Dispatch. Barbara also won an honorable mention award in 2007 for her story, “Cassie and Frankie Inspire a Writer” which was sponsored by best selling authors, Linda and Allen Anderson of Angel Animals Network.
*******
Frankie is a miniature dachshund who started out life just like any other dog walking on all four paws. At six years old she ruptured a disk in her lower back and was given a 30% chance of walking again.
Three months later not much had changed for Frankie, so she was custom fit for a dog cart to help her walk. Once her cart arrived and she learned she could “walk” again, there was no stopping her!
Frankie’s lesson is that we all have challenges. But we have a choice as to how we will deal with our challenges. Frankie’s motto is: “Choose positive & keep on rolling!”
Frankie is the perfect example of living a full, positive life beautifully in a dog cart. She will leave an everlasting and loving paw print on your heart and give you hope that all things are possible.

What a lovely story. I have a Great Dane and I often wonder what one would do with a large (huge?) dog that was challenged like that. And then I read this. Seems more than a coincidence. Tires??? (-:
