Put a Cork in It - Poetry by Yvonne Perry

Put a Cork in It

Congested head
Keeping me awake all night
Wicked thoughts
Pricking my mind
Hatefulness toward the past
Worry about the future
Guilt about feeling happy with others
Tangled up in the swirling energy
that wants to suck me
down the drain
of memory lane
reviewing past hurts and problems

Relentlessly calling back
my wandering mono-fill-her-up lines
Cast upon the waters
One less stranger on the
Passengers manifest
Warped and overcrowded
Not fitting in where I was,
Nor yet where I will be,
Not sure where I am now

Write a message,
slide it into a bottle,
(remove the label first)
Put a cork in it,
and hope it floats
