Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music

Janet Riehl, the author of Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music Is coming to Nashville and you can meet her at her book launch party! Here’s a note from Janet.

Listeners at my poetry readings and talks of "Sightlines: A Poet's Diary" told me that my reading added so much. So, last spring, when I went down to Nashville to visit blogging buddies Yvonne Perry and Hal Manogue, I also began the 5-month process of making an audio book of "Sightlines: A Poet's Diary."

We'd recorded 40 songs in my father's SW Illinois parlor; I recorded all 90 poems in a 2-day stretch in the home studio of my sound engineer Scott Kidd. Scott turned out to be a stalwart collaborator that stood by me throughout the recording, editing, mastering, licensing, and production of the 4-CD-set that became Sightlines: A Family Love Story in Poetry and Music.

As part of our spring launch for the audio book, this April I'll be celebrating in Nashville with all the folks on the Nashville team who made this audio book a reality: Yvonne Perry, Hal Manogue, Scott Kidd and Greg McNey. We'll dine together at The Sportsman Grill to celebrate our particular big game we bagged.

Sightlines audio book is now available through CD Baby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/janetgraceriehl.

Want to listen to a sample of the poetry and music on our audio book? This month we're offering a 10-minute audio clip of 8 tracks from disc three. This disc roughly corresponds to section four called "Homeplace" in the poetry book. If you already have the book, you can even read along as you listen.

The clip includes four songs as interludes between the poems. The three poems I read are: “Window Frame,” “Knick-Knacks,” and “Crazy Sewing Box, Sorting.” These poems all relate to our home place, Evergreen Heights, but have my mother, Ruth Thompson, in mind. Mom died after the book came out; I've always been glad I wrote these before she left us.
